Mike Rasmussen is working on a book about GLCMs and Florennes. Here is his info:

I was stationed at Florennes AB from 4 Oct 87 to 20 Oct 88, and was Assistant
NCOIC of the Supply Orderly Room, working for Major Duane C. Andresen,
Commander SUPS and Msgt Harold V. Sumners, 1st Sgt, SUPS.

The purpose of the book is to give a comprehensive and light-hearted, while
informational, look at the history of the GLCM program, Florennes AB and possibly
other GLCM bases, some background history of the Namur region and Florennes the
city, and Belgium and surrounding countries, as to how they influence and impact
each other, while at the same time maintaining their own sovereignties.

The book will touch on WWI history, WWII history, the years between the end of WWII
and the opening of the GLCM mission at Florennes AB, what it took to open the base and
perform the mission, and the result of our presence, culminating in the INF Treaty, and
its ramifications. There will be a little history of the base from its closing in 1988 and
now, and what its current mission is.

There will also be, with others' permission, stories of life as a member of the GLCM team
from all levels of responsibility. This aspect of the work will cover life in the dorms, life
on the economy, life at section and squadron level, life at wing level, and life in the
field. I would like to outline diverse AFSCs and how they contributed to the mission.

Mostly, as I said, I want it to be informative and fun, not only to the obvious group
of readers, but a wide base.

This is my second book. The first was a novel about Basic Training in the Army. I
was in the Army National Guard before I joined the Air Force, and the book is based
on my and others' experiences there. It in focused at the 16-25-year age group, and
is intended to shed a positive light on the U.S military and the people who fill the ranks.
The first book is still in the editing stage, and the biggest obstacle I face is that I have
to rewrite the first chapter.

Thanks,

Mike Rasmussen
